This volume is about an island situated in the north-eastern part of the Caribbean. It is the island called Nevis whose mountain is often capped with mist or cloud. There are only 35 square miles of Nevis and it is separated from the neighbouring island of St Kitts by a channel barely two miles wide. The climate is tropical and maritime with the trade winds blowing from an easterly direction most of the year. The temperature never falls below 60 degrees F nor rises above 90 degrees F, with little difference between winter and summer.
