Louis-Christophe-François Hachette was a French publisher who founded a leading Paris publishing house in 1826, specializing in textbooks, dictionaries, and educational materials that significantly advanced French primary education and culture. After studying law in Paris, he began publishing textbooks following the 1830 revolution and expanded his firm to include scholarly classics, guidebooks, and journals. He also advocated for an international copyright convention and wrote on social conditions of the poor.
