Ruth J. Colvin

Ruth J. Colvin was an American literacy advocate who founded Literacy Volunteers of America in 1962 and wrote extensively on adult literacy. Her work helped establish volunteer-based tutoring programs across the United States, and she received numerous honors, including the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2006.
